Walking Tours in Philadelphia with a U.S. History Teacher

Take a free, pay-what-you-wish walking tour of historic Philadelphia led by a U.S. history teacher passionate about bringing the past to life. I’m Tom, a teacher in a local suburban school district, and I lead a story-driven walking tour of Philadelphia that explores the people, events, and places that shaped the nation.

This Philadelphia walking tour emphasizes context, storytelling, and meaningful connections rather than memorized facts. The experience is designed to be engaging, informative, and relaxed, offering a deeper understanding of Philadelphia’s pivotal role in American history.

Tour Highlights

• Independence Mall and the heart of America’s founding story

• Washington Square Park and its Revolutionary-era history

• Old City Philadelphia and parts of Society Hill

• Hidden gems and bonus locations many visitors miss

Group sizes are kept manageable to encourage questions, conversation, and a relaxed pace.

Check availability, tour details and reviews and then  BOOK YOUR GURUWALK TOUR.

Tours are offered through GuruWalk and operate on a pay-what-you-wish model. There is no cost to book or join the walking tour. At the end of the experience, guests are invited to make a contribution in an amount they feel reflects the value of the tour.  A portion of the proceeds is donated to Philabundance, supporting efforts to fight hunger in the Philadelphia area.  For larger groups or private tours, please reach out at history.swiftly@gmail.com.
